Hello, does anyone utilize Apple air tags on equipment here in the VI? Do they work here?

Thanks!

Yes, they work anywhere in the world as long as its within range of an Apple Bluetooth device that can send its location to iCloud.

@vicanuck Ok so this may be a dumb question, but if they need to be near an apple device to send to the cloud, how do they work to send locations of missing or stolen items?

@bpblue My understanding is that they work passively on the Apple "Find My" network via bluetooth.

As long as any Apple device passes near by the tag from time to time, it will send a signal with its coordinates through that Apple device. If no Apple device passes by or passes by very infrequently, it obviously won't update often or at all.

Also used by criminals to track you to your home after shopping or a bank visit.

Yes, lots of creative ways to use these. I always thought it would be enlightening to put some inside of recycling material to see where it actually ended up, or tires left at the tire shop for "proper" disposal.
