Assistance Clearings Customs - Car

Hello!

My husband and I are moving down in a few weeks and just traded in our car for a more "island-friendly" Jeep. I read in one of the moving stories on this site that they paid someone to pick up their car at the dock and go through customs and licensing for them for $150. Seems totally worth it to me. Does anyone have experience with this or have a referral?

Thanks!

here is another thread ----------------- located on STT --- if you are still planning on that - or ask about STX service, they are that good.

I did this when I brought my car down. Definitely worth every penny. Hassle free.

I have used Meme at International Logistics Solutions before. The fee will vary depending on vehicle, but just as a heads up, in order to get it cleared and 'road ready' you will have to pay road tax (16¢ per pound), and also have insurance. I have been told by all of the insurance companies (and ILS) that they won't insure the car until it hits port. Here is a recent quote from ILS to get a 2009 GMC Sierra 1500 road ready:

Customs Duty 0.00% 0 $0.00
Road Tax 0.16 5105 $816.80
Service Charge $75.00
Sub Total Clearance $891.80
Registration $175.00
Service Charge $75.00
Sub Total Registration $250.00
Total Clearance and Registration $1,141.80

I, too, used Meme 4 years ago. Totally satisfied and we picked up the vehicles at the port office tagged and ready to go. We are on STX.
