Good morning! Looks like I will need to get auto insurance on STX as my Geico insurance will only cover me for 30 days. Is car insurance more expensive on the island? Any experience or recommendations about local agents? Thanks

cost-same factors determine the cost here as in the states but i think it is cheaper than florida and marylad

Vanguard is NOT a good choice. Marshal and Sterling gets my vote.

We used Executive. We were pleased with the company, but I can't comment on payout, we never had an accident.

Marshall and Sterling in Gallows Bay - our agent for years is Vicki Bandola and she is very helpful and nice.

for the coverage you get Marshall and Sterling the most expensive. Try USAA better coverage for less money

You're correct except for people who don't qualify for not being in the armed services!!!!

Another vote for Marshall and Sterling for policy service. But I haven't had a claim. So can't vouch for that. My premium is about $400 a year lower than our similar car in PA (same coverage), after bundled discounts I don't have on STX . But I live close to the city there. So apples and oranges.

We were with a local company and could only get $10K liability. Went with USAA, We did not qualify but my father-in-law did. GREAT coverage and saved us money. Between the house in AZ and the four cars we save almost $2K a year. THey won't do houses or condos in the USVI 🙁

If you or your folks are military, you can get USAA. They now have car insurance in the VI. Their rates are much lower.

Another thing to ask when getting a quote... is for rental car or other when in the states if you are a resident here. Some agency(s) did not offer that last year 2011.

We have had great experiences with Marshall & Sterling as our carrier (one accident, both vehicles had M&S insurance, paid out quickly & easily).

I was recently in an accident with a Guardian customer (they got the ticket). I had heard negative things about Guardian as well, so I made sure to call frequently to keep the claim moving. No problems at all, and the staff were all very friendly.

Good luck!
