Automatic vs. Manual on St. John

We're looking at buying a good used Tracker or Samuri to ship to St. John when we move. Can anyone tell me if there is an advantage to a manual transmission vs. an automatic one there? My husband can repair a clutch or transmission, but knows that a clutch is much easier. Any personal experience would be great. Also any info on car insurance on island would be much appreciated.

I was a believer of manual when I was in big America, wouldn't have anything but automatic here!

Resale value with a manual will be significantly reduced as very few people know how to drive stick.

Hey CiCi,
Any chance you want to buy a Samurai in St. John rather than before you go? My friend is selling his in St. John right now, and it's an automatic. Let me know.
Best,
Amy

I have a manual Suzuki and an automatic Ford. I prefer to drive the manual transmission. It gives me much better control around the switchbacks and over the hills. It's also much easier to get fixed. It's more reliable as it has fewer moving parts. I agree that you should buy a car on island & save shipping costs!

We may be very interested. We have decided that buying there is probably a much better idea. We probably won't be down until around July. How soon does he have to sell it? If that time frame will work, let me know a little more about it, you should be able to email me from here.

Thanks for the heads up!
