Just arrived on the island, we dont have transportation yet.
We stay within walking distance from town.
Is there any bakkery around town to take out or sit down with a coffee?
Thanks.

Right on the waterfront is RJ's latte and around the corner from Tavern on the Waterfront is Beans, Bytes & Websites. They aren't bakeries, but do carry pastries, etc.

There's a bakery over near the CAHS, but I forget it's name?????

If the sub-base mentioned Franks is across from the ever-visited BMV (LOL), I would vote for that bakery being the one offering things that many statesiders (like myself), would find comforting and familiar and delicious: pasteries, cakes and breads, along with Island favorites.

ps - Cinnamon Rolls with gobs of frosting are THE BEST!!!! Ah memories of BMV!

Perhaps it's a dyslexic acronym for the Motor Vehicle Bureau, which is across the street from Frank's Bakery:)?

In the states we have the DMV, where one goes to get their drivers license. On STT I am pretty sure it is called the BMV - Bureau of Motor Vehicles....no?

I know the Drivers License outfit recently got seperated from the police idiots and someone who had been acting head was "appointed?" the head of the new outfit....read in the VI Daily News.

Wait wait wait....are you telling me that you can get a real doughnut on STT? Man, that alone may be one of the bigger (yet rarely mentioned) differences between STT and STX!

Yes, HipCrip- donuts! Tasty donuts! Come over for a visit sometime! 🙂

Island Paul, I'm showing my roots here, but I had to chuckle, because where I grew up, the BVM was the Blessed Virgin Mary- and there were reputed sightings in my hometown more often than I can count. 😉 If only SubBase was that exciting! 🙂

Best,

LR

Yup, FRESH DAILY - Jelly Donuts,Glazed ones, croissants, croissants with fillings like ham and cheese, great looking cakes, cookies, the cinnamon rolls I mentioned, pecan rolls!

No wonder I didn't mind TOO MUCH going so many times to try to complete my drivers license nonsense - I always treated myself to a short walk across the street to Franks, before I drove back to the East End!!!! Even took a couple home one day, just to prolong the love affair!

LR and Island Paul,

You two have just earned a spot on my favorite Sadists list. The list of baked delicacies and capitalized FRESH DAILY is a cruel, cruel thing to do to the pastry-deprived.

😛

Island Paul,

I wasn't correcting you, I was just answering agv's question. What I call the MVB isn't fit to print. A new friend went there last week to pick up a USVI license application form and I was surprised to hear that they charged her $2, just for the form. Now she gets to pay an optometrist to comment on her mental status, try to find a picture printing kiosk that's operable so she can provide them with the requisite photographs, and then line up at dawn to take an exam she's likely to fail because it is so poorly written. Even a pastry from Frank's does little to placate me when dealing with the MVB.

No need to take the exam anymore, they just issue you a new license now if you hold a stateside license!

Ronnie is right - and it has to be a VALID stateside license. Blazing Photos in Nisky is where I get my photos done- they are fast and nice- and close to the DMV- or whatever you want to call it.

Best,

No exam is great news -- I'll let her know and maybe she can get her license before they change the rules again:)!

Hey Guys ...STX may be in for a TREAT... I spent 6 years at the largest bakery in Nashville where we made @ 4000 loaves of european bread a day, all hand formed of course. And lots of pasteries and tarts, bagels but no doughnuts though. Maybe I should open a bakery. Cinnabon sounds so good right now....Maybe I will grab a few at the mall today to get my fix before i leave town.

whatoozy,

Thank you, Jeff -- you are awesome to think of us! That's just the type of neighborly gesture that makes these islands the greatest place that I've ever lived. The Hip Hubby and I are already looking forward to your visit..and the doughnuts are just a bonus part of it!

Hello All,

I wish my experience at the MVB was easier... MVB told me that I had to take a written test because I had a stateside license. That was in December when I had a valid I.D. It has since expired and they want me to give them a letter from the state my license was issued that says I don't have a suspended nor revoked license and I also have to take a driving test. My eye exam wasn't good enough for them and I have to redo that. Apparently I got a real eye exam and not a 'driver's license eye exam'. Why they picking on me? I am hoping to get my passport and just get another stateside license. When you pay for your form, be sure and have exact change. I probably messed up the whole thing when I gave them a five dollar bill and they had to dig up change. I am hoping I can wait a while and they will forget who I am and I can try this whole thing over again.

And Frank's really does have good doughnuts and bread and sandwich's for lunch! There is a bakery down an alley in Charlotte. Drake's Passage I believe. Near the new soap shop.

How are you Island Paul? I haven't been on the board as much lately. A lot going on. Now you all have me wanting doughnuts. I am trying to eat more healthy foods. Oh well. 🙂

Teresa
