Was wondering if anyone could tell me what is needed to set up a checking account on St. Thomas. I am coming from the US mainland. Are there any certain documents I need to make sure I have when I go to the bank? Any suggestions on what bank? Thanks!

Hi mfoster0,

Since banking rules, regulations and laws do change occasionally, I would suggest calling at least one (and perhaps even all) of the three major banks on the island to verify what documents you will need:

First Bank (Port of Sale Branch) : 340.774.4800

Banco Popular (Main Number): 340.693.2777

Scotia Bank (Havensight): 340.776.5880

Hope this helps :)!

Also ask them to explain the differences if they are under Puerto Rico banking laws, as this can be significant if anything happens to you and someone else is on the account.
