I remember reading posts about banks on island, can someone name a few on STT? I want to find an institute there (STT) that has branches on PR. I have heard there is a banco popular.....possibly a Scotia?

Any Santanders....R&Gs....

Thanks in advance people....

Cheers, Peter

Talonz82:

If you plan to open an account on-island you will need to have your original social security card or a letter from the Social Security Administration telling them who you are.

Earlier this year I tried to open an account at First Bank....even though I had my photo drivers license and passport they would not accept my application.

I've talked to several people about this and apparently this is a requirement for all of the banks in the USVIs.

Thanks for the heads up, I'm used to that after living in PR, I carry my SSN card which only identifies my enrollment in the social security program, they use it on PR as a major source of ID, scary stuff, I have gone from checking my credit report every 3 months to every 45 days.

I plan on opening the account here in PR, have a branch on STT where I can access and my wife on PR can access also. I haven't figured out which one will give us the most convenience, but I will.

Thanks, Peter
