Hi

My boyfriend and I have a life long dream to own and guest house on st john, we both currently live in New York city he's a TV producer and I work in children's fashion, both jobs I know we can't do down there, so basically we would need to rent our house as a guest house or a bed and breakfast to make money to live on, I have researched and researched but I know that none of that can help as much as talking to actual people about it, so my question is do you think another b&b would bring in enough money down there to live happily on, we both think island life is for us and even though we currently live in the most convient city we think we could adapt quite easily to life there, were are both extremly easy going people and I think I could handle waiting in line for a hours or so, and if anyone has bad costomer service it's New York. seems like great way to live life other than going to an office everyday sitting in front of a computer all day and spending about 4 hours a day together, not a great quality of life(you only get one right)
so were saving every penny cause yes we know how much house cost on st John's however we are open to the other islands, oh and I'm scottish so I need a greencard before we can go, but hopefully in a year or so when I get my visa and we have enough to buy a place hope fully I'll see you all there.

Thanks everybody I have found out so much more on this website than any other source. I love all your trueful opinions and it has completly squash my fears that we would find it hard making friends. Please keep it up.

can't wait to get there, oh and we'll be there next spring for a more extensive pe move visit.

P.S I would love to here from anyone who has opened a guest house on any of the islands and know there experiance's.

thanks again people keep up the good message boards : ).....

Michelle: I am confused. You are Scottish but don't have a green card and work in NY?? How are you living there if you don't have a visa?? You need to visit with Ronnie, the man-in-the-know on all things B & B. Send him a PM or maybe he will read your post. Read "Don't Stop the Carnival." And, it will be good to come on that extensive visit to see if you really could stand waiting in line hours at a time when you have guests arriving on the next ferry and the cistern is out of water and oh, yeah the current is out, too....

Hi

I have a working visa H1B which works for now but means I have to work in fashion so I don't think that will fly in the islands,
I would love to visit with Ronnie, thanks for the heads up. I agree on the long visit and can't wait to come there.
Oh and I have the book on order, just waiting for it to arrive..

thanks

You do need to come down and take a look see. There may be one for sale. There are many houses I suppose that could be converted to a b & b. I think there is a special visa you can get owning a business in the US that allows you to stay. You can PM me for more answers if you like.
