It's a road right above the harbor on the hill where Bluebeards is. Probably in the Tunick Bldg.

Yep! Just found out what building it is in and you are right. Is that a good area? What about housing in the area?
Thanks

Not exactly a residential area although there are residences nearby. We could spark a great in town/out of town debate as to where to live. I am a townie so you know where I stand.

The island is only so big. In town out of town your not that far away from anything are you?
Just wondering.
Which do you think is safer for newbies in or out?

Hello Crystal,

You are right the island isn't very big, however considering the mountainous nature of the island, a short trip could be a long drive and then traffic downtown in the am and pm adds to the driving time. Say for example you were way out on the West End; it could take you 25-30 minutes to drive into town. Similarly it could take 20-25 minutes if you were on the East End... perhaps even 40 minutes depending on where exactly you are on the East End and what part of town you were trying to get to; and of course the traffic.

I'll let Ronnie answer the in town vs. out of town question ;), as I am not a townie so of course I'd be steering you out to the “country”.

Crystal,

Just to address the "safe/not safe" issue, there are some areas in town where you would be unsafe living as are there are parts of the West End and the East End ditto, Southside and Northside likewise. So I guess I've now very successfully answered THAT question (!)

Crystal: You will find St Thomas to be different in that the neighborhoods are very mixed. There is a housing project on prime waterfront land. Many beautiful areas have pit bulls tied up in the yard, junk cars, and half-finished houses. The idea about coming and looking for yourself is reiterated here for a very good reason. I have been a townie and now live in the country. I have enjoyed both for different reasons.

I live on the Northside now and have a beautiful view of Magen's Bay, but have to admit I really miss living in town. Other than the view there isn't much else to the place. It's just as noisy as town, but instead of traffic and pedestrians and sea planes, it's goats and roosters and dogs and a cow who can be really vocal if she wants to be. The roosters generally start their crowing around 4 in the morning, but come to think of it, there were plenty of roosters in town as well. When the lease is up I think we'll be looking for a place in town. Or at least some place where you don't always have to get in the car to go somewhere. I'm not the best of drivers and would prefer not to do it if it can be helped. And I'm sure anyone, or anything, who happens to be on the road when I am feels the same.
