Ok, I've been reading, thinking, smiling, crying, wondering, knowing, testing, feeling, desiring, laughing, stopping, seeing, and then realizing ya have to just experience it to really get it. SOOOOOOO, what's the least expensive and best way lubricate the experience? 🙂 🙂 🙂

I think, cruzan coconut, cruzan dark with some pineable blended. But here's the big thing...forget the stirrer

stirred personally my STT Residents index finger. A very yummy drink.

Business has been great and this comes with a break in the action. Just saying in case you think I have a lot of time on my hands.

promoguy, you naughty boy... And, FYI, I only use my index finger to point and sometimes taste. My bartender basically uses her index finger as a complement to the other four and sometimes for taking photo shots of customers (she's quite talented in this area!)

Jen, reading your post I was almost inclined to mention the new flavored warming KY but then I saw the title of your post.

A very good Cruzan rum drink is a mix of Cruzan dark with pineapple juice, OJ and cream of coconut with a float of Cruzan blackstrap. We call it "The Killer Toad."

Enjoy and cheers!

promoguy and STTResident: You're both a crackup. 🙂

So, the reoccurring theme here is dark Cruzan run, coconut, and pinnapple juice.

Is pinapple juice spendy in STT ?

jenn,
I don't believe the Bacardi people use 7-Up. The last I knew was that the Bacardi owner also owns the Coca-Cola bottling plant on PR. They ONLY use Sprite (a Coke product). But it is good either way. Bacardi Select used to be my favorite rum. Haven't had any for about 6 years. My current favorite is Mt. Gay Extra Old (Barbados). I still have to try some Dominican rums though.

It might have been Sprite. That was over ten years and millions of brain cells ago 🙂

bassman: Just an interesting side note, I did find this article about Bacardi and Coca-cola:

http://www.luxner.com/cgi-bin/view_article.cgi?articleID=929

Puerto Rico's Bacardi gets out of Coke bottling business
Impact International / July 15, 1995

By Larry Luxner

Puerto Rico's Bacardi Corp. is getting out of the Coca-Cola business.

Company president Roberto del Rosal says Bacardi plans to sell its manufacturing and distribution franchise for Coca-Cola in Puerto Rico, acquired in 1989, as part of Bacardi's strategy "to focus on the sale of alcoholic beverages ... the mainstay of our company."

We went to Mt gay distillery on Barbados, who by the way claim they invented rum and can prove it as well. In their tasting room you better not even look at any mix of any kind, mixing rum with anything even ice would be a sin.Me I love extra old and Bacardi 8 Ice and coke, more rum than coke.Don't dish me yet about cruzan country haven't tried it yet I can't wait for May PMV.

Realizing that this is RUM thread, I hope you don't mind my putting in a "plug" for my favorite local concoction...guavaberry. While it's traditionally a Christmastime drink...it's one of my favorite discoveries here. You'll find it at the farmer's market at LaReine on Saturdays, and other locations around the islands where they sell produce and local products. ---mighty tasty, anytime of the year! Cheers!!

Oh, Roger - you bring back some sad memories.....and the last guavaberry I bought last Christmas knocked my head sideways....of course, I'm kind of a lightweight.....it is VERY tasty and maybe I imbibed too much on the "tasty" part? I don't know what's in that stuff, but it purely did hurt me....bad....

I like a dark n stormy anytime- dark cruzan and ginger beer. Much better and less sweet than a rum n coke IMO.

Roger, not to worry. Guavaberry's base is rum!! As a former rum drinker I can attest to the smoothness of Cruzan. Nothing goes does smoother. We were weaned on Cruzan and Coke! Mt. Gay was my favorite, however. In regard to the Bacardi swill. It's unfortunate for some to believe in that stuff. They have a great marketing department that has made their rum so popular. Even the Puerto Ricans hardly drink it! They prefer Don Q!!

Weaned on Cruzan and Rum????????

I think I'm going to ask your mother on this one. I mean really!!!! That nice lady does seem like the type of mother that would have 'weaned' one of her children on Cruzan, 🙂

By the way Ronnie, I'm not sure you can be weaned on but more than likely weaned off.

"freed of dependence on something ". In mammals usually referring to a mother milk.

Ron,
I find it interesting that Mt. Gay used to be your favorite. Was the switch to Cruzan do solely on flavor, smoothness? Or was it for purely economic reasons? Cruzan is half the price, I know. IMO the 2 y.o. Cruzan is close to MG Eclipse, but the Estate Diamond or Single barrel Cruzan are not as nice as MG Extra Old. I'll be down in your neighborhood in under 6 weeks. Perhaps I'll have to look you up for a little taste research.

I'm a mango rum punch kinda guy:

1 part (or more) Cruzan Mango Rum
1 part orange juice
1 part pineapple juice
a splash of grenadine
add to a large portion of Crucian sunshine and enjoy!

Some would modify it like this:

1 part Cruzan Mango Rum
1 part Cruzan Orange Rum
1 part Cruzan Pineapple Rum
a splash of grenadine......

--thought you might like to know that Paradise Radio is sponsoring the first annual "Paradise Christmas Faire and guavaberry competition" in December. I think it's going to be at Whim on St. Croix, but final details haven't been determined yet. We'll be selecting the best guavaberry in the Virgin Islands. ---more to follow.

in a tall glass, crush part of the mint with a fork to coat the inside. Add the sugar and lime juice and stir thoroughly. top with ice. add cruzan and mix. top with chilled club soda . Add a lime slice and the remaining mint, and serve.

Bassman, when I was drinking rum, back in the dark ages, Cruzan was $1.50 per fifth and the top shelf Mt Gay was $1.75. I drank the Mt Gay for the flavor.

For great rum flavor, you just can't beat the taste of Cruzan Single Barrel Estate Rum -- "World's Best Rum" according to the judges at the 2000 World Spirits Competition in SFO. We took a couple of bottles to a rugby reunion last fall as "thank you" gifts to teammates who'd put our son up during his 7-month long tour around the US, but we ended up drinking one on the sidelines of the annual Student-Alumni rugby game! I hadn't had it before, but it clearly was the best rum I'd ever drunk. Try it -- you'll like it!
