Best Time to Move - August or May?

Hello Islanders,

My wife and I have been planning to move to STT in August 2008, but recently we've been tossing around the idea of waiting until May 2009. We want to avoid moving during the peak tourist season so we can have at least a couple months to comfortably look for jobs and find a suitable apt. From what I've read, August is relatively slow. Question is, how slow compared to May? When exactly does the tourist season noticeably "slow down?" If not so much in May, can anyone recommend a better time?

We've already booked out first PMV for this August and we're very excited to see your world for the first time. We plan to explore and gather as much info as possible, and perhaps a 2nd PMV will happen if we postpone our original plans for August '08.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I think your PreMoveVisit this August will answer your question. May is the end of the "high" tourist season, so you have until the next December before the cruise ship traffic peaks again. August is the height of the hurricane season, so you will have time to worry along with everyone else with every new storm report.

Depending upon what you are doing and where you live, high season vs low season could have very little impact on your lives. If you are involved in tourism related business you will be affected more than if you are retired or working at other things.

Be sure to plan your PMV as a chance to really experience all of the things that the islands will throw at you. Be sure to search previous posts on this board. There is much good advice, and bad advice, real truths, and fantasies on this web site. Read it all and then ask more questions.

August is the start of the slowest part of the year as far as tourism goes. It's busier in May than August but still slower than the height of the season. Traditionally, high season is Dec. 15 to Apr. 15 but it starts cranking up in November. Good luck.
