Any relatively big bookstores in STX? Are reading clubs popular on the island?

No big bookstores. A little one in Gallows bay across from the post office, but it has more cards then books. The other one is in C'sted on Company street, I think its called Treasure Chest, its above Divi fabrics. Its a pretty decent little book store. Quite a few restaurants used to do book exchanges, but not so much anymore, Turtles Deli still does and almost all the condos have some kind of book room where you can exchange books. But these book exchanges are very limited, but its free so I'm not complaining. Also the condo ones are supposed to be for renters and owners. I'm a huge book worm, but mostly I stock up when I go home and ship it media mail (very cheap) back to the island or I go online to Amazon, sometimes ebay.

There are no "big bookstores" on STX that compare with stateside. There is a very nice bookstore in Gallows Bay. They have new and used books. It has the feel of a small Bookmans.
There is also a used paperback book store in Christiansted.

The Women's Coalition Shop in Peter's Rest has used books really cheap and so does the Animal Shelter thrift store in Golden Rock.

Undercover Books is the name of the book store in Gallows Bay and it is actually an excellent book store with a lot of variety in new books and a growing used book business. If you have fairly new books they have a trade system. The staff is excellent and they can order anything you might want and have it as fast and as competitively priced as online stores. The kid section is pretty big too.

As others also already said... The Animal Shelter Flea Market has a used and constantly changing variety of paperbacks at ridiculously low prices (if you get a bargain... throw them some extra change for a very worthy cause!).... ditto for the Women's Coalition. Treasure Chest is always an interesting stop too. Several Condo complexes have book trading shelves in their offices.

I understand there are several book clubs on island. - check with staff at Undercover, they probably would know about them.
