Does anyone else experience SLOW Internet access w/broadband?????
It's like watching paint dry on growing grass.............dial up is FASTER!!!!!
We've complained...............they send people out unannounced after 7 pm(like I'm answering the door to a horn blower in the dark..................PA - LEEZE)........then call early AM to say they will be out in the afternoon......................NO SHOW!!!!!
So for a $200 deposit, $50 1st month in advance...............you get horrible Internet service, followed by unbelievable & unreliable customer service & a chance to prep, cook, eat & clean up a 15 course meal between pages..............no wonder I'm gaining weight!
Dish wants $1300 for their equipment upfront............then we could go to Innovative..............hows bout I just flush $100 per month & call it even...........lol.

Where do you live? I'm wondering if it's an issue with which tower you're pointing at. We have no problems with Broadband. For us it's pretty fast and most of the time fast enough to watch streaming video.

We lived way out East..............service was bad
Now we live in Catherines rest.................even worse!!!
If you want to surf at 3 AM.............Kal-a-bunga Dude.......you can surf, but during peek times of the day.....................FORGET ABOUT IT!
Ha Penny is the other direction they can point, but was advised against it by BBVI, stating it was WORSE....streaming video I wish, it would take a yr to watch a 2 sec report!.............Hey the weather is sure nice!

Service IMO is always bad, but it's REALLY been bad this week and we're prolly using the same tower as you...we're in Work & Rest facing Hess.

Works fine for me. Often have to download 10 - 20 mb files and my average speed is usually 600 kbs.

I recently switched to Broadband VI, and I like it fine. I'm in Estate St. John. I tried DSL, and it was about the same speed, but it was messing up my phone line. It may be a relative thing, though. I had Choice before, so ANYTHING would be an improvement. I don't know how to do the speed test, but one of my tenants did it, and said ours was "really good".

Im also in estate St John and use a Sprint air card...and for $60 a month im happy. Its not the fastest conenction, but i can easilly send music, pictures and data files without watching paint dry and its 98% reliable...no matter the time of day. Also...getting online whereever there is a cell phone signal is priceless for those who need mobility. Reliability is more critical than speed for me. Im very happy with it.

Fast enough to browse the web with ease.

I use the Sprint card. Access was terribly slow until someone mentioned that I should put the antenna outside the metal screen in the window. So I cut a hole in the screen...and the difference was amazing. Who'da thunk?

Antiqueone points out one of the obscure reasons for slow browsing. I install Hughesnet on STT andSTJ. When i get service call that references slow browsing, it comes wi a long checklist from Hughes. Some items are obvious Connectors/corrosion/metal staples in the cable etc.. But other items are less so. The voltage in the circuit powering the modem and transmitter or a defective power block are 2.

VI Broadband should offer good browsing. They have good equipment and technology. The devil is in the install. Either at the tower or in the home. If you are having a problem keep making noise till they get you up to speed.

Broadband VI customers (including Yearasta), please call 719-2943 if you are experiencing slow Internet.
This weekend we fixed a couple of lingering Omar/Lightning damage issues which improved service in the Work & Rest and South Shore/Hovensa areas of STX.
Islandtyme, sorry for your issues, glad we were able to get it fixed.
Mike

Ronnie,

I just had Verizon FIOS (Fiber Optic) installed yesterday. This is what I get here with it. Think they'll have this down there in six years or so?

Yeah, Ronnie, it's running a little slow this morning as it flips the omelet....:P

Of course, on the other hand, I've got to go bundle up in my down coat, hat, scarf and gloves to go out in the 28 degrees, warm up my car and head for work.

Trade off? I don't think so.

All was well until 8:15 AM..............................DEATH.............slow..............slow............slow..................DEATH...................now that the business day is almost completed.............up to a crawl..................BBVI, the lil engine that couldn't..............lol.
To all the lurkers in the back ground & those of you thinking of taking the plunge...........these are some of the little pleasantries that await you.............premature greying/balding...........followed closely by binge drinking & finally either succumbing to the fact zoloft makes life easier here................or we just say beam me up Scotty & leave.......................Better check my zoloft..............ha ha ha!
Guess we'll call the office again tomorrow & see if they can send someone to defibrillator the antenna...................:P

Mike
I'll have my husband call you!
I don't mean to talk bad about a service & will gladly recant my jabs once we figure this out! Same note, if I sold you a service & it didn't preform.........you'd not only be upset, but tout about it's miseries!

Why don't you concentrate on finding out what your problem is instead of trashing Broadband VI. The consensus of most everyone that replied to your post was that the service worked OK for them and apparently Broadband VI is trying to solve your problem.

Therefore it would seem that there is a problem with your particular location so perhaps Broadband VI will never work there or there is something wrong with your computer. Have you tried taking your computer to a location where Broadband works to at least eliminate the possibility that the problem is not with your computer?

Jim
