Anyone have any experience in doing this with a used car? My thoughts are that it would be cheaper to ship than from the US. Would we pay the same duties etc. coming from PR?

i could be wrong, but i thought the duties you paid had to do with foreign parts on the car

True. But I thought that a used car imported into PR would have already paid those duties.

PR is in a different customs zone than USVI. Go figure. Don't remember the details but there may still be duty on stuff coming from PR.

PR has 11.5% Sales tax. Maybe hard to dodge that. US made cars imported to VI have no import tax. Road tax is based on weight.

Nightmare process getting a car out of PR. Plan on visiting multiple places and inspections. God forbid the engine or frame identification number is illegible. Hire someone to do that if you can.

Guess they have a little problem with auto theft over there.
