buying versus renting

Hello,

My husband and pan on relocating to St Croix in 2006 and were wondering if it is better to rent first and then look for a house to buy. Or to buy a house on our next visit before moving down and then sell our house in California.

We had visited St Croix twice looking at houses and plan on going down around Thanksgiving to look at houses again.

Have you ever heard of a Real Estate agent called Victoria Finke?

Thank you,
Carole

I would definitely rent for 6 months/year before buying. It will give you time to decide where on the island you want to live. I know it sounds silly on an island that's 23 x 4, but different people really like different areas. And where you work, if you work, will also be a consideration.
