Good day,

Weird question I know. Have been trying to find out the leading cause of death for children in the VI. Have been referred to Kidscope and Kids Count Community Foundation and they only have stats. No one answered at Department of Health and also researched online only to find links that were no longer active and bum email addresses.

Any referrals would be helpful.

Thanks,
Jen

Strange question. I have no idea but do know that asthma affects lots of kids & can be fatal as I know of a few cases.

I tried doing some research, but can't (easily) find documentation separated out for the VI, but here are my gut feelings seeing what comes through the ER and not particularly in order:
1. Accidents/Trauma
2. Asthma
3. Sickle Cell crises
4. Congenital defect
5. Cancer
6. Diabetes and endocrine disorders
I did find the HIV/AIDS related is #11.

I'll keep looking.....

Jen: You might try going to the Commissioner's office in person. I think someone will probably ask you why you are interested in this information.

Great, thank you everyone! We were able to find it on a 2005 report from Community Foundation.
