Cell Phone Issue

Hello All!
I plan to make my move from Baltimore, MD to St Thomas the last week of November this year. I have Verizon Wireless, which I found out is not going to be smart to have in St Thomas(roaming charges are abou $1.99/min). I have an option to get a Global plan through Verizon, cancel my Verizon account(for alot of money) or keep the phone and get another cheap plan once I arrive on the Island.

Any advice?
Thanks all,

Lisa Marie

I'm not sure we can help you decide, but here's how I would do the math.

First, calculate how much it will cost to get out of your Verizon contract. Divide this number by the number of months you have left in your contract.

AT&T and Sprint are the big players down here, so shop for plans from them and figure out what you would pay per month.

To this monthly cost, add in your pro-rated Verizon termination fee to figure your "monthly" expense.

For example, if you would get an $80/month AT&T plan, and you have 12 months left on Verizon but have to pay $240 to get out of the contract, that averages out to $100/month.

Then, compare those numbers to the cost of Verizon's Global plan. If that would cost you more than $100/month, then switching and paying the cancellation fee is the better deal.

If you want a new phone anyway, switching providers can mitigate the sting of the loss somewhat, as you'll be eligible for a deep equipment discount.

Good luck, and let us know what you decide!

It's my understanding that they have made some deal with Choice to use their cell sites. I would wait and see if this means there will be no more roamimg. You have time.

I was in the same dilemma when I moved. I dropped Verizon and went with AT&T. I don't remember how, exactly, I did it, but I ended up with no cancellation fee. Either, Verizon relented and admitted that I was MOVING to a place they DON'T service, or AT&T had some deal that, if I switch to them, they paid my cancellation fee. Inquire, and start now.

Good Day

Thanks for the tech # for ATT. They told me today they should have it cleared up by the 11th. They also gave me a $100 credit since my online was also affected by the towers.
