With all the programs available for cell phones, is it more benificial to have a cell rather than a homebase phone??
Whats the monthly cost of a home phone??
I live alone so I would only need one phone....any opinions on which would be better?? Oh, I will be on STT.

Hey there. I think the only reason for a landline is for the internet/DSL. If you are not using the Internet, I can't figure out why to have a phone at all unless it is cellular.

None of my tenants have ever had a phone, and they got by just fine!

Two cents,

Dan

My land line costs $31.74/month. I only have it to have internet access.

On STX, a cell phone is probably more reliable than a land line, given Innovative's track record. But first, make sure your home and your main hang-outs get cell reception. The hilly terrain creates lots of dead spots here.

Yep i agree with Bob, i'm in one of those hilly areas and my cell reception is horrible but then again my land line is always going out and my dsl is fueled by my phone line and it almost never goes out. But at least where i live now we almost never have power outages. knock on wood knock on wood 😉

Look at purchasing a fixed base cell phone. You plug this device into your homes wiring and all your regular telephones have dial tone and can make calls.

In addition it has 2 watts of power which is more than three times the power of a typical handhel cell phone.

If necessary you can hook up an external antenae and get a range from your location to a cell tower of up to 40 miles.

I have a landline phone only for sending faxes. I also used it for dial-up internet on the three occasions in the past 19 months when Choice internet was down for part of a day and a few other times when power was out and I still had battery power for my laptop. Even though I pay about $35 per month for the landline, it was out for five months from June through October this year and I still had to pay the monthly bill until they got around to fixing the damaged line up on a pole that was causing the problem. Cell phones have problems with capacity and bad connection lines sometimes, but they don't go out completely for 5 months! Wireless internet has been pretty reliable. I don't know many people who truly have a need for a landline phone on STX. If you have no cell service where you live, then you would want a landline.

As far as STT is concerned, I wouldn't be without my landline. Trying to reach someone on a cellphone is a frustrating task to say the least and I often have to redial as many as 10X while reception is spotty to say the least. If you're relying on a telephone to reach businesses (or if you're looking for a job) and leaving a cellphone as your contact, your chances are much better for a recall with a landline and an answering machine. Just my opinion and it sounds as though the landline problems might be worse on STX than on STT.
