Cheap place to stay while looking for apt? STT

We arrive on STT August 3 and are looking for a cheap (but safe) place to stay until we get an apartment. We will be concentrating on the East End so we would like to stay as close as possible to that area.

Any suggestions on good hostels/guest houses/hotels? We aren't picky about sharing bathrooms, etc if the price is right!

Thanks so much for your help! This message board is an invaluable source of info!

🙂

check VRBO and homeaway.com . Cheap? Don't count on anything less than 100 per nite.

For some reason I am having trouble finding the link for the Crystal Palace, a great B&B in town. The host is a heck of a guy!!!

Sttwest, Sorry you had a bad experience. I've stayed there and thought it was a great place, very centrally located with a very welcoming host. Are you saying that you didn't stay there, but someplace else? There are no "projects" in the area. Perhaps you should clarify how you got "screwed"?

wow, sttwest... i know the owners and i know people who stay there every year. in fact i used to live next door to it. not the projects by any stretch, but sorry that when you were there something may have happened in the area. as a very longtime resident i say that with all sincerity and empathy for your feelings.

Were you at Villa Fairview or the Crystal Palace? I am not sure what you think are "the projects", but neither of those places are near any government housing. Are there sketchy areas and sketchy people in town? Yes. But there are sketchy areas and sketchy people all over.

They were at Villa Fairview. I never once told them they would be at Crystal Palace. Many times in our conversation she asked is breakfast included? And I said no, you are not staying at Crystal Palace, you are at Villa Fairview. I am sorry they thought they were in the ghetto. I treated them fairly. For $26 a day I put them, with their 5 cats, in my biggest ,most expensive room, for the same price as the least expensive. I offered advice, I tried to help. Again, I treated them fairly and when they left early, I gave them back much more than I should of, based on what is written on my website.
My reservation sheet goes to my Crystal Palace email account so maybe that's where the misunderstanding happened.
Crystal Palace's rooms are currently $99-$119 per night which would amount to quite a lot more than $800 for a months stay. I am sorry they feel this way. I guess the old adage is true, you can't please all the people all the time.
It is a cheap place to stay. Not the Ritz Carlton.
