Computer Expert needed?

My husband is considered an "expert" in his current computer field, but has background in most every aspect of hardware and software. Are there any computer "handymen" on the island or islands and is that something that would be in demand? Do you think he could make a comfortable living doing this?

There was a thread not long ago looking for computer help. However, he might want to send his resume to the big hotels or businesses that have large computer systems. Did he want to do something on a private basis like Computer Geeks?

He would love to do something private like Geeks - but the capital needed to open one of those franchises is more than we have. He was thinking of opening up his own version - but we were wondering if that was feasible - would we be able to live like we are used to and afford private school for our 3 year old.

Thanks

My guess would be he'd have to get a "real" job first and do his computer magic for friends. Word of mouth is huge here. Friends telling friends and cold calling (in person - not over the phone) medium sized businesses with his business card in hand would be the next step. I think he would find work and would probably make a living, but how much money and how long before he could switch to full time would be a question hard to answer.

Another consideration is health insurance.

Establishing any business on the islands is not for the faint of heart and I wonder if you have done any sort of a pmv? Hopefully you've really researched this forum. Not only the present posts but past posts, FAQs, cost of living info, moving stories, etc..

Whether or not you can live here "like we are used to" can't be answered by anyone other than yourselves and for this reason you should invest in a pmv if you're still interested in moving after reading up. Good luck to you whatever you decide to do.

Thanks for the great info. We are doing on our first PMV June 20-27. I have researched the this board - quite a bit and have gotten a lot of invaluable information. I think many of our questions will be answered once we get there.

Thanks again -
