i honestly think they passed this exercise in futility because they knew it would never pass at any level and changes would not be implemented while idiots like the son killer and the drug dealing bigot, and emanuel,ect.... were involved,so they just passed it to be done with it.

Ditto, they never write up one that has any chance of passing. Its just a huge waste of money every year. Unless more people with a level head get involved its just going to keep happening every year. Isnt this like the 17th constitutional convention?

Oh, some of them are in it to see their name in the paper & for the free meals. Many are absent for the votes but NONE miss a meal. If they wanted it to be briefer, it should be on a voucher system. If they vote they get a meal. If they don't they buy their own meal.

well gerard emmanuel wanted to somehow petition congress to allow only "natives" to vote on the constitution,i think that if i took this document back to my native homeland, minnesota, and subsituted minnesota for virgin islands and tried to get it passed i'd be laughed out of the state

Remember those that acted like idiots. they may run for public office. Although I don't agree with all of the items in the convention I think that he conclusion could have been reached long, long ago. I will be interesting to see if this can met the US Constitution test. After all that is the document, plus changes that have been made that governs us all.

a friend of mine is a delegate and he voted yes on the constitution and i asked him why because he is against all the native stuff even though he's a long time crucian,he told me nothing will ever get accomplished as long as roker, emmanuel, adelbert, moorhead and monsanto are involved so it made more sense to pass it and let the president and the congress deal with it,they can take out all the bad stuff and send it back here for the vote,he also said giving them more money would be a waste until the document comes back from congress because no one knows what congress will do with it,he suggested we email the president but only if we are registed

citizens of the united states of america are automatically citizens of the u.s. virgin islands. virgin islands citizens (born or naturalized) are citizens of the u.s.a. the u.s.v.i. is a territory of the u.s.a.

I thought that but the constitution says to be a senator you have to be both so there must be a distinction

I haven't seen the final wording, but there were several definitions they played with. One was that a citizen was someone born here or lived here for a year. There were other definitions of ancestral Virgin Islander and native Virgin Islander.

I understand from people who were here for the last vote that it was voted down before it even went to Washington. This time it seems it goes to Washington first, then comes back for a vote. Can anyone clarify this? The convention website has old drafts, but not the real McCoy...

Making my way through the Constitution. So many problems!

Anyone have a definition for "political religious belief" (Article I, Section1)?

Anyone hear the Gov's speech this afternoon? I missed it but heard that he called the Constitution a "travesty" and refused to send it on. He also refused to send it back to the convention delegates so it's done/over. The speech is supposed to be re-broadcast tonight but I don't know which station. If all I heard he said is true, I'm quite proud of the Gov. This document would have been an embarrassment to the USVI and I'm glad it is not going back to give the delegates more "free lunch" on the taxpayers!

Wow. All I was able to find out is that he did make an announcement, and is not going to send it on. Roger Morgan's radio station is likely to have something about it on the news either at 5 or 6 PM, and is livestreaming now. Staff there did not know if they had a recording of the announcement or not. Nothing yet on the governors website.

did not get to hear the speech but two radio sources tell me that he says "no", he will not send it on. local news radio begins in about 10 minutes... i am certain you'll hear either excerpts or the entire thing, so tune in to your favorite on the air or online!

I heard most of it. A great speech. Basically it was the convention did not follow guide lines and that the document was illegal.
