I was wondering if your credit rating is a big deal in VI like it is on the mainland? I had an ex that messed up my credit while i was deployed to Iraq. She rented in apartment in my name and broke the lease and left a $2069 charge off on my credit which makes it hard up here to find an apartment or a house just a place to live period. Do they do credit check for almost everything there like they do on the mainland? I just want to be able to find a place to live when i relocate to VI. Thanks

Your best bet is to stand if front of a landlord renting an apartment in their own home. Make a good appearance and have cash for first, last, and security. if you have a job, stress that. If not, talk about your past life in the military and your eagerness to find work. You will not be able to do this until you are actually on-island. Good luck

I have never been asked anything regarding my credit to get an apartment here....I've lived here over 12 years and only had 3 apartments, though...They all asked for references from previous landlords, which I provided...
