New Gannett Hardware Store

I found out by word of the mouth the new Gannett Hardware Store is open. It's located in Gallows Bay, just down the road from Broadband VI - across from ABC Janitorial.

I stopped in yesterday. It's not as extensive as Gallows Bay Hardware. Meaning they don't carry "everything". But it appears they're trying to have a good stock of standard hardware store items.

Why in the world would someone start a new hardware store practically in the shadow of a large, established one? I guess time will tell.

I think they will eventully put Gallows Bay hardwarr out of business; it would seem most the employees are moving over the new Gannett.
I shop wher I get the best service and I think Phil and Mary will provide that.

Schooner Bay Market has improved 10 fold.

I guess time will tell. Personally, I didn't think they ran SBH all that well.

Just heard a radio ad that GB Hardware is now price matching any item in the store? I'm glad to hear that the prices will go down, but man are they gonna lose some money!

I think schooner market has improved in some ways and gone down in other ways, But I think I'd like to see how they do for 6 months before I really decide. I like the improvements to the salad bar and some of the new soda selection. But some things have been out of stock for weeks now.

Think it was a crazy idea to open a hardware store right there, but then again stop and save and schooner market are right next door to each other...not much difference in their sizes.

I was in Schooner Bay a couple of weeks ago, and I even posted about how pleased I was with the changes. I went in yesterday and was not all that pleased. The seafood selection was pretty lame, and the fresh produce was ridiculous. I picked up a couple of things and then put them back, thinking I can't do this. I did buy some local cukes and a vadalia onion. I don't remember the price, but I know from previous visits, the vidalias were around $7.00, or more, per pound.. At least they had small ones yesterday, so it wasn't like I had to pay $10.00 for one onion. I then went to Cost-U-Less and bought some reasonable veggies (by island standards).

I agree that it is too expensive to shop there.

Just my observation: We are doing major renovations to our home and GBH has been very disorganized lately. Hopefully it is just due to the pains of changing things over.

Gannett 778-1034

Hmm... Gallows Bay Hardware is 773-1034. Are they trying to confuse us by having almost the same number?

I would say that is a definite possibility. The break-up was not amiable.

No it wasn't, and, seeing what wonderful things the new management has done with the old GBH, and seeing the shenanigans that Phil and Mary are pulling, makes me rethink some things...

Gannett 778-1034

LOL! I'm reminded of my phone number back in the states: 624-1010. Had it for years and even kept it when cell phones took over. Then the local movie theater in town started advertising their new location and number: 623-1010. Naturally I started getting tons of calls wanting to know what was playing. At first I told them wrong number but then, after zillions of calls, I decided to start having a bit of fun and telling them the names of movies I made up as the spirit moved me... From Bambi to, well, use your imagination... Then the callers started leaving me voice mails so I set up my message to say: "Thank you for calling 624-1010. For information on the Cinema Six, press one. To leave a message, wait for the tone". Actually had one lady say "One" and wait for a response. Laugh, I thought I'd die!! The calls and messages finally slowed to a trickle and that's ONE REASON why I moved to the islands...

Phil and Mary defiantly had that in mind when they got their number. No love lose between the Armstrongs and the 'McCoys'... It will be interesting to see how long they can hold out... GBH has been slammed every day since the onslaught of Earl. No telling what they'll have left when Gaston shows up...
