Hello All,

Does anyone know of a jewelry store that would buy a diamond ring? Thanks for any help that you can give!! I would greatly appreciate it. Or if anyone is interested, please pm me. I believe it is .85 with 2 small diamonds on each side.

I'd check with Irmela's since she designs jewelry & is reputable. She could probably steer you to the right place.
Edited to add the phone number: 774-5875. I think she's in the building that backs onto the Ft. Christian parking lot.

I think you will find that you will not get any where near the value of your ring at a retail store. Jewelry stores and pawn shops often buy rings but usually pay only spot prices on the gold and low appraised price on a certified stone. That can mean that you might get only ten cents on the dollar in current retail value. gold is very high right now, but you still will be just giving the ring away.

I have heard that you can do better with a private party sale. If you can get a verifiable appraisal and guarantee the value you might do much better. It does take a great deal of effort do do a transaction like that.

Hi Trade!

Is the Irmela you mention the same one who once had a store (Irmela's Pearls, I think) at the head or foot of Main Street where a Del Sol store is now? Irmela is such a different name, I would think they'd be the same person. Does she have a new shop now?

Thanks!

It's the same. She designs jewelry now. Used to be in the Grand Hotel building before it was redone.

Thanks, Trade!

Grand Hotel....Duh! Senior Moment.

I loved her pearl store. Is she retail, with a shop? I'd love to visit it if so.

Gerie, she does have a small showcase as many of her followers, both local and tourist, still shop with her. She is located in the Professional Building, which is the white building to the left of Fort Christian, as you look south.

Saw Irmela tonight. She no longer buys jewelery. She also suggests eBay!

Ronnie and Trade,

Thanks for the information about Irmela. I am not a jewelry shopper at all, but the one good piece I ever bought (other than my very classy annual Orbit watch purchases) was from her shop when it was in town. I remember it was her very charming daughter who handled my ring deal. I went the following year, thinking I'd buy something to accessorize and whoa...it was shut down. I assumed she had closed the business/left the island or such.

John won't be joining me this year, but I'll have my friend Candy with me again. Candy, the dripping in gold and diamonds buddy who walks through airport security with nary a bell or whistle being set off, while I, metal free and even removing my underwire, set the alarms ablaring. I'll really impress her with a visit to Irmela.

Thanks again.

Gerie
