Does anyone have any experience with Direct TV in STX? I am having a difficult time with the local dealership. I have never had satellite tv and I am just tyring to understand the service, fees, installation, etc. Would dish network be a better option? Any info would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

As for as I know we don't have it as yet. I have also heard rumor that we do, but no one has proved it to me as yet! We do have Dish Network though.

Satellite On Demand is the Direct TV dealership in STX. Do you know anything about them? Thanks.

Sue,
DirectTV is available on St. Croix from Satellite On Demand. I did some "homework" and called them. They are using the smaller dish that is available in Puerto Rico. They can only get you the Latin American package. The Latin America package is limited to the channels you can receive. Not the same programming that is available in the states. Their prices are very low for the installation and service and I came away with the impression that you never own the equipment. I believe they are using false addresses in Puerto Rico to get this service, although I don't know that for a fact. (Merely the impression I came away with) Personally, I would be very careful in getting this service.

I have DishNetwork and it's great! Although you have to have bigger dishes (4' or 6') to get both satellite 110 and 119, my service is great and I have no complaints. I just upgraded to an HD (high definition) tv and the HBO and Showtimes and Discovery channels that DishNetwork provides in HD are fabulous! Makes you feel like you're in the same room with the broadcast.

Do I understand you correctly that you are able to get 110 AND 119 off of one satellite dish?

Please let me know ASAP. Thanks!

You need 2 dishes to get satellite 110 & 119 on St. Croix. You need a 6 ft. dish to get satellite 110 (the signal beamed from the satellite 30,000 miles up is weaker) and a 4 ft. dish will get satellite 119 just fine. In the states you get what is called "Dish 500" (dish is small like a pizza pan) which receives both sat. 110 & 119. Since we are on the fringe of both signals, the large dishes are required here.
