Drivers License or Passport

I totally agree the passport is the wham bam tank you mam of idenification, but the draw back for your clumsy forgetful people like Moi, is the potential to loose it. Once you loose it NOT only will it be much harder to get a new one after you report it lost but most likely you will end up being send to secondary every time you travel. So far I've encountered almost no problems traveling with just a drivers license, if and when that changes I'll switch to passport.

So far it is a far far greater pain in the arse to travel with lip gloss in my purse. TSA loves taking it! 😉

well now that's funny about the lip stuff...

once on my way home from michigan, a tsa person held up a nearly-empty tube of toothpaste i had with me, and told me that he needed to confiscate it, since the original container held more than 3 oz. and i was on my last squeeze!!!

ah, me.:-(

I can't imagine the hell I'd go through without a passport. I get pulled aside for every single flight, even the kites at Cape Air to San Juan. It's ridiculous.

You know, I understand the Dept of Tourism trying to get people from the mainland to understand that they can come here without a passport. What I don't understand is anyone who lives in the contiguous 48 states traveling outside the border of those states without considering that a passport might be a good idea. I got my first passport many moons ago just in case there was the possibility of a spontaneous trip to, oh, I don't know, Paris or Hong Kong or somewhere! 😉 And like Juanita, I don't leave home without it!

Where is the passport office on St. Croix? I really should change mine to my married name, so I can stop carrying the marriage certificate with it.

downtown at the government building. by the way all of the people who work there are very very nice and seem to be very efficiant. the building is across from tradewinds. not sure the name of the street though, cant seem to remember those.
just go to the main door and the guard there will tell you where you need to go.

Trade, if you have problems with every single flight, sounds like you're name might be associated with something derogatory. I am not saying that you are associated with anything derogatory, it could be a "sounds like" or similar to someone else's name.

If it happens again, ask the CBP Officers for a "record fact sheet". By law they cannot tell you what pops up on their screens when they run your name, but the fact sheet will have an address that you can write to. I am not sure if even they can tell you what's up, but they may be able to clear out any cobwebs or disassociate your name from whatever is derogatory.

I know this because I lost a passport. Every time I flew with my replacement passport, I was secondaried by CBP Officers to confirm my identity and not the unknown person who may have the original. Even ICE questioned me once about it!!!

Nowadays, I say h#ll with it and only use my driver's license to fly. Keeps things simple and easy. Except for TSA who always finds something in my bag that I forgot to leave behind. I think I've spent a fortune on replacement toothpaste so I feel A Davis's pain.

You can also submit a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to the following:

U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Freedom of Information Act/Privacy Act. Mint Annex
1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW
Washington, DC 20229
And in reference to presenting a passport, (if you are a United States Citizen) no it is not required to travel between the states and USVI. As a matter of fact, the audio at the CEK airport Customs area specifically states "passports are preferred, but not mandatory". However, I don't know about St. Croix, but in St. Thomas when the line for Customs is out the door and down near the Spirit Airlines counter, add an additional 30 seconds to every person in the line without a passport to allow time for the CBPO to type in the information.
