I find reading at night with a backlit screen (kindle for iphone) more enjoyable and less stressful than with a kindle and a booklight. You have to dim the screen fully, but the experience is better, both for me and my wife who does not read as late as I do, typically.

I do most of my reading outdoors, so for me backlight would not be good.

As much as I'd like to say that the Sony Reader is fabulous, since part of my job is to sell it, but...no. Go for the Kindle, all the way. Also, the Kindle will sync your account to several devices, so you can start reading on your Kindle, read the middle on your Android or Blackberry smartphone, and finish the book on your PC, a real convenience for people like me who are always on the go and don't always have time to finish in one sitting or the purse space to carry along an extra device.
