Makes no sense especially in STX when Carnival is in STT.

A lot of people travel back and forth between islands during the respective Carnivals which is why government services are universally cut back during those times.

Public services don't stop on the mainland when the circus or a fall fair is on.

Why do they stop here?

Can't government employees go to the carnival on the weekend like private sector workers?

Mardi Gras in N.O. basically stops everything. Public works are minimally manned at that time.

No when they can continue to get paid for not working!

You're joking, right?

This is NOT the mainland. Not even close.

In all fairness, the carnivals are a huge cultural event and also big economic generators. The office closings didn't really bother me. But you do have to plan ahead.

A huge cultural event? Is that what it is? Seems like a poorly run country fair to me.

People were never shot at country fairs that I went to. And, they didn't end at 3 am either!
