There does seem to be a little more to it than just paying your $$$. And it musst be done in advance of your travel.

I used the pilot program in MIA . There is a background check, you still go through security, your bag goes through the machine and you walk through the metal detector .
The line is shorter and you don't have to take your shoes / belt off, or take out your laptop and toiletries , so that makes it nice. It is a lot faster but still very secure.
