We were looking to book our flights for Sept and found that there were hardly any flights.
With American we would have to fly from AZ to either Chicago or Dallas, then back to Los Angles, then to PR, and then to STX with no overnights, 24 hours!:-o
Over $1200 each:-o:-o
With Delta, not much better.
Will go back to normal after first of year.

WHAT'S UP? Any ideas?

Hi Terry,

That sounded so outrageous, that just for fun, I went to Kayak.com and plugged in Phoenix to STX for 9/18-29. (just picked random Sept. dates). Kayak went through all their sites, etc. and sent me to American, where there was a flight for $605.90, including taxes and fees, R/T, going from Phoenix to Miami, San Juan and STX, leaving around 7:30 AM, arriving STX about 12:30 PM. The return flight went STX, San Juan, DWF and then Phoenix. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I fly Delta monthly from STX to either PHX, TUL,PHL, JFK but they are cutting back their schedule as I have found out. In fact they had no flights posted after August!!! But I checked their schedule again recently and they have put a few back on around Christmas. I tried to talk to Delta and they had no response as to when or if they would resume almost daily service from STX to ATL. Pinnacle is the company DBA as Delta and the flgihts are jam packed each way, I don't know why they would be scaling back. I know they keep pushing back the departure time from STX which makes it harder to get connecting flights at times without long or overnights in ATL. But Delta is the easiest quickest route to ATL and the rest of the world.

The going rate on Delta - STX-PHX Coach around $600 or First class around $1300

OK I was just on Delta Flights Scheduler and...AS OF NOW...

NO service scheduled After Aug 31 until Nov 30

Resuming Wed and Sat Service Beginning Dec

Leave STX 3:30p Arrival ATL 7:00p

Leave ATL 9:45a Arrival STX 2:40

So as usual you will have to be on the earliest flight out of your connecting city to ATL to make that 9:45 flight or you spend a night in Hotlanta.

Flying into St. Thomas might be an option. Than you could catch the Seaplane over to St. Croix. Delta and American offer several flights starting as low as $516 on Travelocity.

Hi and greetings;
I travel to and from STX via MIA on American Airlines to about 300,000 air mile each year!
I avoid SJU like it has the plague...only because Eagle is so difficult to either leave on time or even leave at all.
The MIA to STX is a direct 737-800 flight and leaves around noon from MIA.
MIA has connections from and to just about everywhere in the states or Canada.
I use AA.Com for their best pricing and Kayac comes second.
best of luck to find flights....14-28 days in advance are usually the best pricing, weekday travel Tuesday through Thursday is the most open seating for the aircraft.
Good luck and have fun.

Terry, if you haven't already, set up kayak.com to give you an alert (daily or weekly) about the current pricing for PHX-STX so you can jump on it when it dips down. I saved $200 on a flight to Belize that way in May. The alerts I've been getting have been consistently under $600 (though not by much... $597 or so), so I don't know where your $1200 came from, unless maybe that was the total for the two of you?

I think the hugh price difference has to do with the days of travel. I noticed AA had a lot of days when travel from PHX to STX was not possible or the per person R/T was right around $1200. Being flexible on dates helps a lot.

looked on Kayak and found several. That is odd that they have American flights that American does not list.
Thanks!!

I just did a quick check and if you're careful with dates in September you can fly JetBlue from Phoenix to San Juan round-trip for $468.20 (with taxes and fees.) From San Juan to STX is the better part of $200 rt on Seaborne, American Eagle, Cape Air, etc. so total round-trip fare is under $700/person.

All of which is to say: the airlines are ridiculous.

Name me one other product where the price varies so widely, so often, and so capriciously.

We have heard "rumors" that Jet Blue will often times will put you stand-by at the last minute and sometimes you miss your flight. Has anyone had this problem?

I would steer clear of JetBlue. With all airlines, either fly first class and pay up to reduce many hassles or if you dont you better buy the insurance to cover you for weather related delays, which will leave you at the airport with no compensation.
