Flying with dog through San Juan- anyone taken Seaborne to STX?

hi all!
we're moving to STX in mid-march, and will be flying with my dog. we really can't afford to pay the $500 a piece to fly straight from MIA to STX on American.... so, considering flying American from MIA to SJU, then taking a cab to the airport Seaborne Airlines flies from on Puerto Rico, and taking Seaborne from PR to STX. Doing it that way, we'll have a long lay over- perhaps 6 hours or so- on PR... just wondering if anyone has flown Seaborne and knows if there is a park or place we will be able to take our dog to relax during the layover that's close to where Seaborne leaves from?
Any thoughts/ advice would be much appreciated!
Thanks!
CG

Did you check CapeAir? They fly from the same airport in SJU you'll fly into.

Are you taking their seaplane service or their new service which flies from airport to airport? If you are taking the seaplane it leaves from the waterfront in Old San Juan adjacent to the cruise ship docks. It is an urban area not a lot of large parks, but small squares. If you are taking the seaplane you stop first in STT and then fly on to STX.

The land based plane flies from a small downtown airport next to the dock the Royal Caribbean uses. Again an urban area and a long walk to Old San Juan.

How big is your crate? I flew on AA connecting in SJU on American Eagle with no problems. My crate is extra large 40"L X 27"W X 30"H
The baggage handlers that transferred the dogs in SJU were extremely nice too.

We had the basic XL size "AA & Continental" approved crate for our 100 lb Golden.
Cape Air has to disassemble it to get it in the cargo door, then reassemble it inside the hold. No problem.
Wife stayed overnight at the Old SJ Sheraton with our dog due to connections. Very pet friendly there.
