Gannett is closed now, yes. And I was told tonight that Schooner Bay is focusing now on only their hot food/catering business, and then the produce, bakery, and alcohol part of the store, and that they don't plan on restocking the grocery. Maybe they'll move to a new location?

jwidjaja, Food Town is on North Side Road, just west of Five Corners.

thats kind of odd, i would think they would want to make in a convenient place for people to shop but it does not sound like it.

They haven't been stocking the groceries for months at Schooner Bay Market. This must be great news for the Foodtown peeps opening the new mini mart up the street and a win for east enders. The Schooner Bay Market was a goldmine for years when it was run properly. Now its like a lot of things on St. Croix....sad and depressing.

no, schooner bay-if they are not going to stock "grocery items" and only the items mentioned by you, it just seems like they are trying to shoot themselves in the foot. if they could keep it stocked with grocery items, wouldnt they get more business? i am shaking my head

It sounds like Food Town is angling to fulfill the East End specialty/grocery food store niche that Schooner Bay has left open. A LOT of people are looking forward to it, it was a big subject of conversation last night! (grins)

The new store will be called Food Fair by the way...not Food Town. Yousef told me the other day.

I think they're a ways from open. It looks like they just got the exterior finished cleaned up and the interior is still a shell. I bet two months - wouldnt be surprised if he's targeting the beginning of season.

I was talking about Food Fair - the location just east of the Pickled Greek. It is owned by the same family as Food Town (an uncle I think). Food Town is fully open and done with renovations.
