We stopped and watched it for at least 10 min!
It was beautiful and spooky at the same time!
I have never seen anything like it.
We saw it from Grove , near the old drive in,
About 5:00 or 5:30 yesterday afternoon.

St Croix source has a photo taken right at the airport!

I just missed seeing it, too! I recall seeing a very low dark line of clouds and thinking that it looked like something could form out of it!

How often does that happen here? Or is it more evidence of climate change?

I was wondering if that was a water spout (which are not completely uncommon) or a tornado.

It was definitely over land, in the middle of the island, so it was a funnel cloud. If it touches down then it becomes a tornado.

Also since it was photographed at the airport, and then near Grove/Bethlehem, that means that it either travelled a mile or two, or two funnels had formed. Most likely it was the same one.

Waterspouts are not uncommon here in the VI.
I have seen lots over the years. Fascinating to watch them develop.
There's a terrific picture online I saw once of one in the STT harbour, early evening hours.
Saw a small one on the way back from Jost once and we drove around it, then stopped to enjoy the spectacle.
I have a couple pics from some I have seen from my home over the water. Pretty rare over land tho!

Was there another one that was similar that showed the Cruise Ship dock In STT or was that a lightning pic?
Long ago.
