Hi kenny.

There are furniture stores on St. Thomas and you can find there contact information here: http://www.viphonebook.com/Main.asp. Island stores tend to carry basic items and can order from some firms, like Broyhill. There are also some small stores here that order handmade furniture made on other Caribbean islands. In Puerto Rico the furniture stores often carry more trendy and contemporary items at all price levels. If you want extremely high-end furniture you'll have to order it from a stateside firm and have it shipped.

Just back from two weeks on island, trying to furnish two bedroom condo. While there are a number of stores on STT, they carry virtually the same items. In most cases, prices are greatly inflated for the quality that's available. If possible, I would recommend buying in the states and arranging to ship to STT.

In answer to this sort of question, I always recommend looking out for house sales and checking out what people have to offer. This is a very transient society and very often people move here, bring in furniture from the mainland and then decide that island living isn't for them. Shipping furniture back to the mainland isn't cost-effective and you can find some incredible deals at house sales.

The Island Trader is a good source of info for such sales.

Good luck!

I was hoping to catch the big yard sale scheduled for 7/16. Unfortunately, I had to leave a week early, but I agree, this type of thing is probably a great alternative for incredible deals. I haven't chosen to ship anything given the size of my condo and the limited amount of time I spend on the island, however, wonder whether it might make sense for one seeking to furnish a house.

My brother-in-law who lives on-island went to Florida to purchase furniture. His main complaints were limited choices as well as inflated prices on STT. Since he bought other stuff as well while in Florida, it was worth it to get a shipping container and have the whole thing shipped down.
