Wow!!! All of a sudden the topography for my lot on STX is MUCH better in GE. And they seem to have the dinky little roads around my lot identified. So, they obviously got some major imagery updates.

Looks like it was May 16, 2008. But.... I think that the topography info was maybe updated more recently... very cool. Anyone doing their house in Google SketchUp for submission to GE?

The picture is definitely better, but not newer. We tore out a deck about a year and a half ago and replaced it with a different shape. The old deck is still in the image.

I don't see any improvement to the area east of Cotton Valley,

Jim

Yeah, the imagery looks the same to me, but the "Digital Globe" map info shows May 2008. That May 2008 update did not cover the east end (you can see by the image boundaries).

Yup... so, I don't think they got new imagery... I think they got new digital terrain info (the topography) and updated road info.

Same old photo. There's a house across the street from us that was built two years ago; it's not in the photo.

The images of the East End are the same. My house has been there for about a year and still not there.

There are still clouds over my properties in STT; have been for several months now when I look at the GE STT map. I feel like Charlie Brown ("I got a rock...")

The date on the map I bring up says May 14, 2007; is there a way to update the map?

Best,

Islandlola

Islandlola,

With GE loaded go to "Help" and scroll down to "Check for updates online". It will update from there.

Thanks, DanielB. I gave your suggestion a try--I get a message "There are no updates available at this time."

Boo hoo.

If you want to see what the latest "geography info" (I'd say imagery, but that has proved incorrect... a "mapping update" might be just terrain info, which I think is the case, this time... I'm still trying to confirm):

- launch Google Earth
- find the "layers" panel on the left
- scroll down to "more" and expand that list
- scroll down to "Digital Globe Coverage" and expand that list
- select "DG Coverage - 2008". When you toggle that on/off you'll see boundary boxes on the map (zoom back so that you can see the entire east half of STX). In each bounding box the actual date is displayed (May 16 2008).

So, it implies that there is new info as of 16 May 2008. I can tell that the terrain info is MUCH better for my lot on STX, but the images look the same (everyone else is indicating that the image has not changed).

BTW, after a little research, "Digital Globe" is a company name, as opposed to a data type description.

the image must be at least 5 years old, i think that is about when the ferry "Salacia" from Boston Harbor Cruises stopped running. you can see their boat at the dock in Gallows Bay. too bad they couldn't get the exclusive that the present ferry operator now has.
