Read the fine print, i was told something like "it is only effective if the ship is a total loss" which is EXTREMELY unusual. Not 100%, but check it out and ask questions...good luck!

We got shippers insurance because the bank, who is the title holder of our vehicle, required it. I believe it is based on the value of the vehicle. Our value was about 24,000 and the insurance was just under $400. If you are concerned you may want to check about coverage with your shipper, I was told that the shipper only has to pay a maximum of $500 for a loss if it is not insured. Your results may vary.

Kylek,
Who did you buy the shippers insurance through?

Lauren,
We got it through Seven Seas Insurance which is affiliated with Tropical Shipping. Here are two places you may look for more information http://www.tropical.com/about/seven_seas_which_policy.htm
http://www.tropical.com/about/services_sevenseas.htm
I am pretty sure that Seven Seas is only for use with Tropical shipping.

I thought one had to own their car outright to be able to bring it to the islands? My car is financed through Toyota ( I think) -- will I be able to bring it to STX?

it depends on the finance company, you can call and ask if they will allow it.
