Have the plane ticket but no where to stay

Hi All,

There seems to be a common theme resonating among the posts which seeks some approval with the decision to move to usvi and mine is no different…haha. The only difference is that my move is extremely short term. I have a ticket that departs Minnesota December 26th and returns March 1st. I would be eternally grateful for any advice on the following topics:

- I need a house, condo, villa, or apartment with a minimum of 2 bedrooms, dsl connection, and furnished in Red Hook. I will pay the full amount immediately after confirming the legitimacy of the rental/lease agreement. Also, will buy endless drinks for the person who finds the place.

- What is the best way to meet people on the island? I’m 31, single, and love to go out and have a good time. It would be great to find partners in crime sooner rather than later.

- Where would be the best place to rent a car for 9 weeks?

I truly do appreciate any help in the matter. I have never been to st. Thomas, but love adventures and I’m hoping to have fond memories and meet great people.

What's your budget for this condo? That's high season so you're going to pay more. Click on Forum List & check out the classified section. Will you be working during this stay?

Thanks for your post. I would like to keep my rent at or below $6,000/mo and be in Red Hook. I will be working from my rental with the occasional trip back to the states. Are there any agencies that do all the leg work in securing a rental? Thanks again for your help.

$6000/mo???? Surely a mistake? KC may be willing to rent you his villa for that price...'course, that's on STJ....

Heck, at that price he could rent on STX and commute via Seaborne 20 days a month. lol

If you really did mean $6K per month... you would be very wise to purchase a property instead of renting.

Hey Becky.

$1,500 a week for a place in Red Hook with a minimum of two bedrooms, furnished, with DSL, during high season, may be harder to come by than you think! Owners here can frequently rent such a place to weekly tourists for more, though I imagine someone would rather have a sure thing for nine weeks paid upfront.

Wow I hope it is as easy as you think (@ $6k/month). Any suggestions on locations or contacts for places within walking distance of the bars in Red Hook? Drinks are on me if you find a place. Thanks again.

Well, I'd second Alexandra - the seaplane is a quick trip, and for that type money you could have something very nice on STX...very nice...but have you tried posting on the classified section of this forum? You may come up with something - I didn't see a post of yours, but I may have missed it.

Actually nice 2 or 3 bedroom houses or villas can easily go for 3 to 4k a month during season on stx. A villa madeliene condo will cost you that easy for that time of the year.

Would it be easier to pick another spot on st. thomas and if so what would be a good choice? Thanks again for all your input.

Damian,

Red Hook has the bulk of the island's condos so that may be your best bet. You can try searching Cyberrentals and VRBO. You can also check with local realtors and property management firms. On the other hand, if you absolutely require reliable DSL you may want to be line of sight to one of Ackley's towers. For a nine week car you might check the non-chain local car rental places. The VI phonebook with numbers for all of the above is online here: viphonebook.com Good Luck!

Thanks for the great advice. I'll focus my efforts on Red Hook. I'm truly looking forward to this trip and can't wait until I have this part of the planning behind me.
