ok i want medical and dental, but neither of my jobs offers this,so what process do i go through to be self insured and maybe some idea of costs involved, and my partners job is homophobic when it comes to domestic partner coverage even though they offer insurance to married people, they say it's the insurance company so i called the insurance company and they told me it's the company he works for and not them,so i need some ideas here

My wife and I have private health insurance. We use Bupa (formerly Amedex). The deductibles are high ($10K) and the premiums are fairly low (about $2400/year total for the 2 of us) compared to stateside HMOs. It works best if you're healthy.

We don't have dental.

Hi there

We also have BUPA - our deductable is $1,000 per person per year, our premium for the two of us is $4,000 per year and we are a couple in our late 40's early 50's (boy that sounds old 🙂 ) It does not cover doctor office visits and is intended for Stateside treatment - but if we needed hospital tratment in the USVI's it would probably be covered probably with a fight 🙂

So far it has paid for a claim 🙂

It does not cover dental 🙁

Pia
