signed the petition. There are almost 1,200 signatures now and the goal is 2000. I sure hope AA listens to the many people who have signed this.

Totally depressing. The program helped so many animals. Pitchforks you know where to the complaining moron that got the program canceled. I won't be using American Airlines for future travel. Hopefully all the local animal rescue organizations can find another airline to pick up where AA left off.

It is not totally over--just the animals flying for free part. They can still fly, but have to be paid for. The STX shelter has done this for years. Time for STT to step up the fundraising efforts.

It's a blow, but all is not lost.

I think the thing that pisses me off the most is that these poor pets are the ones who suffer first because of jerks leaving them on the island and NOW of some other jerk who was probably just pissed he had to wait in line. I just don't get humans anymore.... at all. That comet can come any time now.

I think too, they should reach out to Jet Blue. Let me tell you I LOVE jet blue now! We flew for the first time to Miami on them, and they have comfortable seats, free cable TV lots of choices of great snacks for free and full cans of soda for free too. We will pay extra especially for long trips just to use them. Hopefully they will be able to start helping transport pets.

Without adaquate funding for the various humane organizations, the free flights for animals bring relocated stateside was especially important. Hope another airline will step up to fill the gap. I would also hope that all these organizations on all 3 islands will get Senators involved in creating a mandatory spay and neuter bill to reduce the tragic amount of animals that are abandoned daily and euthanized because of a shortage of responsible homes and caregivers.

Thank you American Airlines for flying 100 to 150 pets for free over the past 2 years. You are way ahead of other airlines in your generosity.

This saddens me that American Airlines has ended this program. Several people have commented that they hope another airline will help out and establish a similar program. Just curious, has anyone contacted other airlines regarding this to bring it to their attention? Does anyone know if the Humane Society or other rescue organizations have approached or are in talks with other airlines about helping out?

Instead of venting here on a forum about how mad this makes me or that I hope someone else will pick up the slack, I want to be proactive and do something to help. Even if it only helps one animal, that's still one animal that will be given a second chance. When I move this fall to the island I have a friend who is coming to help me travel with my cats, when they fly back I plan to arrange for them to escort a rescue animal to a stateside shelter. I will be paying the pet fee for the airline so that animal can get a chance to find a forever home stateside. Maybe if other forum users are in a similar financial position to be able to pay the fee for one shelter animal to go stateside, the next time they have visitors, they can make similar arrangements.
