Hello, everyone! We are moving to St Croix in a few months...been reading the forums here for a while, so we figured it was time to say hello. We're not really strangers to island life; lived in eastern PR for eight years before moving back to the great white up. Now it's time to get back to the ocean. I know St Croix life is not the same as living in PR, but we figure most of the stuff everyone complains about, we've already lived through (waiting in line, power outages, government employees, etc). We are really looking forward to coming home. Hope to get to know some of you on here and then again in person when we get there!

Ernie and Mary Jo

Thanks, Terry and everyone else for the welcomes. I know you guys get a lot of "here we come, by God, we're moving to the islands!". We're actually doing it. Mid-September or so, unless I get a specific job offer and have to come down sooner! We are working on a PMV, not sure when yet. Might just show up and stay. Been there, done that, in PR, with six kids, that visit lasted eight years. This time, it's just the two of us, and it's permanent.

I'm a mechanic--gas, diesel, marine, heavy equipment; retired Seabee so I have construction skills, too. If I have to tend bar or sweep floors I will. Just need to survive a few years till my retirement pay starts.

I've read all the posts about health care, I'm not worried. We're both fairly healthy. I'm not looking forward to going to the San Juan VA hospital twice a year, I don't suppose there's a VA clinic on the island?

There is a VA clinic, just not a VA hospital. It does take awhile to get appointments as there is only one doctor.
