Hello~

my name is nicole, and i'm new to this board. i joined this message board because i am (most likely) moving to St. Thomas in August. I'm excited/nervous and anxious. i have no idea what to expect, i am reading so much about the islands and i am slowly falling in love. my boyfriend is a pharmacist and has applied for a job in st.croix , and the store will be opening in august, that he is applying for.
did anyone just move to st.thomas/st croix ? any suggestions or advice to give me?

also, i have a degree in psychology and sociology, i was looking to either work at a school or in a hospital, i am currently in the social work field (i'm a case manager). does anyone know if the job market is good for people with my degree? i don't have to find a job right away when we move there, but it would be nice, there isn't really any rush.

anyway, just saying hello!
byebye for now : )

Hi nicole000,
Welcome to th forum where you will get lots of great advice! You and your boyfriend both sound like welcome assets to our islands.
Where are you coming from? Check out some of the info here, but always remember to keep your own origional feelings and reasons up front
as to why you want to join us here. I'm a "native" as you can get Cruzan (from St. Croix) but am still learning alot from the people here.
Keep everyone posted as to your plans, keep an open mind and once again, welcome!
Also, give us some more info. It seems to help.

Welcome! So if your boyfriend gets the job in St. Croix will you move there or are you planning to stay on St. Thomas? Have you been here before? The hospital on STT is Roy Lester Schneider Hospital.

Hi Nicole
Welcome to this board...the best usvi relocation information... period. You need to organize your specific questions, so that people here can help give you information. MOST questions have been asked in the past and can be found by doing a "search". The search function is at the top of the page. Be sure to search for responses over a year or more.

I think that "trade" was kidding you about working on St Croix and living on St Thomas. You will find that they are far apart. Either a long, bumpy ferry ride or expensive seaplane ride separates the two islands. So, if you are working on St Croix you will need St Croix information.

And there is much information you need to gather. Hopefully you are a couple with no children or animals to move with you. That will make things much.. much easier. However there are still many things to deal with, including cultural difference, expensive living costs, logistic es of moving and settling in.

Read this board every day and search every past thing you can think of. Good luck. Expect surprises, you will have many.

Hi Nicole, just as what others have said you need to search and will find the info on this board. I too see that you asked about living on St Thomas but your boyfriend is getting a job on St. Croix. wondered what that means. St. Croix has a hospital here as well so you can both work here.

I had the same reaction to your comments about moving to STT with your b/f moving to STX. The islands are not close enough for an easy or affordable commute between them. If the two of you want to continue as a couple, you'll probably both need to live on the same island!

There is a large demand for any kind of medical worker or counselor, etc. You will likely find multiple job opportunities.

Do you expect to be able to visit the islands before arriving with suitcases in hand? Be sure to check out the classified pages on this website to get an idea of the types of rental properties available and the monthly rental rates.

Best of luck with your move.
