FYI,
I just got our new quotes for homeowners insurance (yes, we are members of AARP...hubby is 50 in Oct.) and they are $1500 less than Guardian with even more coverage!!

If you are over 50, definitely worth it!

With what insurance carrier? AARP uses the Hartford, which to my knowledge does not insure in the USVI.

We switched to AARP last year for our homeowners insurance here on STX. They offered the exact same policy with the same underwriter (Real Legacy - previously known as Royal & Sun Alliance) that we had for several years through another insurance agency for about $1000/year less than the renewal rate with our old company. The homeowners insurance for the USVI is offered through the AARP Latin America division in PR. The number is 1-800-433-0881.

I don't know that there is a local agent that represents AARP insurance on STX, My only contact with AARP for homeowners insurance was via the phone number I listed above. There is an AARP office near Sunny Isle but I think all they can offer regarding insurance is the toll-free phone number.

Just make sure that you have given them all of the correct information as far as your house size & what you have goes. I am sure you already know not to claim those small incidences. *I was an agent for the Hartford/AARP*

We also have our insurance thru AARP in PR.
They offer discounts if you have storm shutters.

Autumn, I didn't even tell them about our shutters. How do you find out their approved providers?

You can call the customer service number & they can send one to you or tell you over the phone. You should also request that they backdate it to your last change (it's a pain in the butt if you try to backdate when there have been changes on the policy). They generally require some type of proof. Additionally, if you are retired you should tell them as you get a discount for that too...heck tell your retired even if you're not...but don't say I said it ;0)
