So, I just found out that I have to be in Houston at the end of July for my best friend's wedding. I live on St. John, and have found that flights from STT to Houston are in the $600-700 range. Given the short notice, this is not an expense I was planning for...can anyone recommend a good web site or airline that might offer cheaper flights? Thanks in advance!

My .02 for what it is worth...................

I often have very good luck finding cheaper fares on Tuesdays.

I am not sure why this is. It could be just chance, but I believe it is because Tuesday is the day that many of the major airlines come out with their special fares.

My suggestion (in addition to the great recommendations you already have regarding travel websites) is to check the fares on Tuesdays and also try to be a little flexible with your dates if at all possible.

Good luck :)!

We fly out of Houston to St. Croix with a stop-over in Miami and we usually pay between 500 to 600 per ticket. This is through American Airlines and we check everyday until we find that price. (Then we stop checking just in case they go lower and we don't feel so bad :))

Try bestfares.com Sometimes you have to rig together a trip - Look under the Snooze You Lose and Quick Fare finder...but if you're willing to spend the time to do it and maybe fly in close but not directly to Houston, you could make it work.

Also, isn't Jet Blue supposed to be flying out of STT soon? I haven't seen anything else about it and their website isn't saying so, but I know they have airline personnel on standby for that start up....

American Airlines always allowed me to search the best price INCLUDING connecting to other airlines. Since America West merged with US Air, I have not seen competitive prices, but then I don't look that often. Delta was horrible and rude. You can save $5,00 (WOOT) by booking directly with the airline if you find something on Orbitz or Travelocity, etc. Summer is always more expensive to the VI.

You might also try some alternate cities; ie st thomas to Dallas might be a cheaper route. Is it a possibily to do that and rent a car to Houston ??? Just some ideas...............

You might try MOBISSIMO.com, they not only compare major airlines, but also compare Travelosity and other web sites.
