My daugther is going to UVI in the fall. I am probably going to rent her a room in a guest home for a month until we can get a better feel for the areas and bus routes.
I see two that are commonly listed. Fairview Villas and Danish Chalet. Which one is closer to UVI? CLoser to public transport? In a safer location?

Thanks for your help. We are truly taking a leap here!

Those places are both on STT - as guest houses go they they would both be considered as locations that are best not traversed by foot at night.
Does UVI offer any suggestions - I know last year they put some students in Island Beachcomber for a few months to start the semester.
You might look into Villa Olga in Frenchtown - They are offering monthly rates and it is different than Solberg or Garden Street.

UVI has not been that helpful. They have over 300 people on their waiting list so I wish they were offering assistance of some kind.
I will look into Villa Olga.
Thanks

ksanchez, I will be going to UVI in the fall as well. I am going to stay in a hotel for about 4 days to try to secure a long term rental. You may want to look at the Crystal Palace as a place to stay as well. I believe that is also in a area that you would not want to walk around at night though. Im not sure which is closest to public transportation, but I have heard that it is best to have a car. Im sure some more of the veterans to this site will have good information, they have helped me a lot. Good luck.

I am the owner of Villa Fairview and the Crystal Palace as well. I have had, and do have some students coming this fall. I plan to contact the University today to offer them some rooms. I always advise the best way to get back and forth,. I also advise not to walk at dark, pretty much anywhere as a young single person. The last student was 19 year old nursing student and she worked out fine. Even seen her jogging at night. The University put some students up at the Beachcomber but they needed their rooms when season arrived. Don't know how they worked out the solution. Maybe if I can get the University to take all of my rooms, they would consider a shuttle as they have a campus shuttle bus that could work. Hope to report back on that soon.

If the university would provide a shuttle that would be great!! I am a little nervous about locations. She will need to get a job as well so safety in an area is a big concern.
