The money was spent before the ink dried on the check.
No surprise. Now I wonder where the money will come from to pay all of Mapp's new hires.

Those lawyers sure made out like bandits.

When are we going to wake up and stop electing thieves?

Maybe when those who are eligible to vote register to vote and become involved in the electoral process?

And stop voting for those who throw the best parties and give out free stuff. Hoping our young voters can make a difference. Many of the young folks i work with are frustrated.

The only way to get the VI government working properly is to remove all those currently in power and replace them with stateside people. Harsh, I know, but it's the only way to circumvent the rampant corruption that has been going on for decades in the VI. Too many people in the VI know each other and/or are related to each other which creates a climate ripe for precisely the kind of corruption the islands have. Yes, I know there is also corruption in the states, but it simply pales in comparison. Sad, but true.

I would go even further.
Once he loses his presidential bid, offer VI to Donald and rename it Trump Islands or Trump Virgins. He would develop the territory, make pple work efficiently, deport Haitians, stop violent crimes and protect our borders. Perhaps we could even have a small war with BVI to stimulate local economy.

Jeez, gotta disagree on this one.
He'd probably be worse than Mapp.
There's a reason for his multiple bankruptcies.

I hope you didn't take me seriously.
Trump is by far only good for TV entertainment. With Kardashians!

Nugblazer is a off on his ideas but what we do need is not to be afraid if a "transplant" was to run for something, and stop recycling the same failures into other position. An for god sake do we really need so many senators?

"Transplants" have run for elected offices. Bruce Flamon on St Thomas ran for senate in the last election, and will probably run again. There are probably others.

Mapp is a "transplant", former Senator Barshinger is a "transplant", just to name a couple. The question of the number of senators has been raised countless times but a public referendum a few years back overwhelmingly in favor of reducing their number was ignored.

The current Lieutenant Governor is also a "transplant" - even foreign-born at that in the BVI! Maybe the US Constitution should be changed so that all elected representatives are eligible to hold office only in the state or territory in which they were born ... 😀

*-) Considering the 3000 missing votes in our last election, no one may have the right to be sitting in our legislature nor government house.

Nonsense on all counts.

You can think what you want, Tart, but the facts just don't agree with you. After 15 years in the VI, I've come to realized that there is no other way to fix the VI government other than flat-out replacement. People are naive if they think there is any other way out of this mess.

Just look at the story from yesterday about Mapp billing the taxpayers for Potter's vacation home. There's a thread right here on this very board about it, a thread which you posted in! The corruption happens EVERY DAY here! They don't even try to hide it, they do it in broad daylight! They thumb their noses at all of us EVERY SINGLE DAY! The system is broken and corrupt beyond repair. Replacement with statesiders -- people who have no connection here and aren't influenced by any special island interests -- is the only option.

If you've got a better idea, Tart, then I'd love to hear it. We all would.

Yeah, and where did that get us? Nowhere! Nothing changed! One friggen transplant senator isn't even remotely enough to eradicate the rampant corruption in the VI government! To even entertain the thought is idiotic! Remember Craig Barshinger? Another transplant senator, a great guy trying to do the right thing. The result? Nothing changed! He has no chance against the gargantuan machine he faces in the form of the corrupt, established, crony-ist, shit*y, incompetent VI Government!

You'd need a hundred Craig Barshingers to even make a dent, which is why complete replacement by statesiders is the only option that would actually get any results. The locals have proven time and again that they are simply incapable of running the VI successfully. They've had their chance and they've blown it! Their government is rotten to the core and it needs to be torn out like a cancerous cell and replaced with honest, competent people who will get the job done. Wake up, people!

Just because somebody is a Statesider ensures their honesty and and inability to not be corrupted?

Really. NugBlazer's rant is so full of gaping holes and totally illogical thinking that there's no place to even start with a response.

I'm sorry. There is no way on God's green earth that Virgin Islanders in government are going to be replaced by "statesiders". That is totally naive! The VI is going to remain the bastion of local rule forever. As they say, if you don't like it, leave.

We all know that many government officials are corrupt, here, stateside, internationally whatever. That's govenrment. But what irks me is that elsewhere they at least attempt to hide their corruption, here they flaunt it.
