Can anybody suggest what would be the ideal car to have shipped to St. John? (Make/model/year?) Something that local mechanics would be familiar with and find easy to work on. 4 wheel drive? Other considerations? Thanks very much.

4wd Suzukis.

Every other car on STJ is a Suzuki sidekick with no doors, no bumpers and a rope for a seatbelt.

You can't buy them like that in the states but never fear, after a few months you will fit right in.

Thanks. Are the mechanics down there competent working on newer models or would you suggest something of an older vintage? Would I have a difficult time trying to purchase this kind of vehicle down there (better to have one shipped?) Also, any place to get your car fixed on STJ or do you have to go to STT?

We shipped a 2004 Jeep Liberty and love it 🙂

Almost every car rental agancy has them (alot of them) so all the mechanics are familiar with them. We found it about the same (maybe alittle cheaper) to buy one with 8,000 miles on it Stateside and ship it, than buying a comparable Jeep here, and the advantage to us was it didn't have 8,000 "island miles" and we also had alot more to choose from as the "perfect" car for you may not be available on STJ when you need it so you maybe forced to buy what is available, but there was a huge selection (as you know) before we moved.
