Inexpensive trip back to the States

Hello! We will be moving to St. Croix in a couple of months. Can't wait to get there and you all have been so helpful with your information. My college aged daughter will be coming down with us for a week or so, but we need to get her back when school begins.(She will be attending the University of Alabama - Roll Tide!) Her trip down is paid for.
We found a one way flight from San Juan to Atlanta for $144. My question is - what is the best and cheapest way to get to San Juan? Should we fly her (we found some one ways to San Juan - but nothing less that $133) or is there a ferry? Would it be better to just pay the difference and fly her directly from St. Croix? Any help is appreciated.

I would check with Seaborne Airlines at http://www.seaborneairlines.com Their rates aren't bad at all! STX to San Juan.

Seaborne will land near Old San Juan, so you still have to take a taxi to the airport.

$144.00 SJU to Atl is great. Which airline is that?? It would be worth the taxi ride in SJU. Seaborne or Cape Air could do the STX to SJU portion....or American Eagle...

I think there is a pretty reliable, inexpensive shuttle to and from the Seaborne Seaplane base in PR.

The San Juan deal is through US Airways. Price is good for any day trips taken over the next 10 months. A 7-day advance purchase required. Blackout dates: Dec. 17, 23, 24, 26, 27 south; Jan. 1-3 north. I got this inforamtion off ClarkHoward.com but maybe it can be found elsewhere too.

Look at buying a ten trip coupon booke from Cape Air. The tickets are unrestricted and can by used by anyone in the family.

Last time I looked it was about $86 per coupon (1 person one way between San Juan & STX).

Mya not always be the cheapest, but convenient.

Thanks for all the information. The Cape Air coupon book sounds interesting. Where could I get more information on that?

Cape Air's number is 800-352-0714

Even if you don't want to buy a book 10 at a time, you can get decent rates comparable to the Sea Plane for just a one-way shot. Just make sure you book around a week ahead, Cape Air has been booked on last minute flights lately.

the cape air commuter book for stx/sju is now $919. that breaks down to $91.90 per leg. so a round-trip is $183.80. not too bad considering prices have jacked upwards of $240 r/t for stx/sju. you can buy the book at the counter, but i recommend calling the reservation line ahead of time. like jbr12 stated, cape air has been booked pretty solid lately. he/she must fly pretty often. 🙂 say hi to me when you're passing through next time.
