My phone's out (on STX); Innovative said they could get someone out to look at it no earlier than Sept 8. Good thing I have a cell phone that's NOT an innovative product!

Good luck on that 9/8 date jefgar. Mine was supposed to be fixed Wednesday on STX and when it wasn't they said they rescheduled to 9/4. Its a new line, I had dial tone and can make calls but incoming calls short out the line. Anyway, they are the ones who will lose $70/month of revenue from DSL that I'm waiting to have the line working for to put in.

I had the same problem back in December, I could make calls out, but no income calls. It was, the receptacle that's in the wall that you plug into. It 's from the salt air, humidity etc., I had all 5 replaced and it works fine now. If your handy you can get the receptacles at radio shack and install yourself. PS one bad receptacle will effect all income calls so make sure you replace all of them.

Thanks Lizard, I will check this out today. I only have one jack. I'll just go into the outside box and take it off, running the phone cable straight to my phone. I REALLY wish they'd put in the outside boxes with jacks just like they do in the states....then you can test your wiring by plugging into the jack that is BEFORE your wiring to see if you have working phone. If so then you're culable, if not, then its a phone company issue.

Update, jack was bad. I had looked at things earlier but this time took it all apart. Took an old phone and split the wire hooking it straight into the innovative box on the outside of my building (they really need to put jacks on those boxes like in the states so you can do these tests easily). Unhooked my other line going into the house and voila, the phone was ringing correctly. Now I had to track down the culprit...took apart the jack and it was corroded as could be. Ran down to GB, got another one, re-wired it and everything works like a charm! I also put a jack in my office as well while I was at it, not bad for 2 hours work!

So I can't blame Innovative for their lines on this one 🙂 But again life would be much easier with the setup like they have in the states where you can just plug a phone straight into the phone company "side" of the jack eliminating your wiring to see if the problem is on their end or yours.

Get to try to sign up for DSL on Tuesday morning. FWIW my phone line actually sounds crystal clear now...hopefully this bodes well for DSL.

My problem seems to be the opposite. My phones all show "home phone line in use" and every so often they indicate that I have a voice mail message. So I hit the voicemail button, and there are no messages. When I pick up a handset, there's no dial tone, just static; I can't call out. However, I have been able to dial in, using my cell phone; it rings and the call is connected. This doesn't sound like the same receptacle problem. FWIW, I can make outgoing calls w/ my cell phone (nationwide calling plan, so it's "free"); as long as others can phone in, I guess I can live with it. Hey, it's innovative; I'm going to have to live with it.

The climate here is icredibly hard on all types of "systems". Ric is involved with utilities at the Buccaneer and it is a constant struggle against rust and salt.

Jefgar, maybe the two lines in the twisted pair are reversed or something?

Best way to troubleshoot is to open the little gray box on your house and hook something straight up to it. I used an old cheapie phone, cut the phone jack end off exposing the 2 bare wires. You could also just attach a $3 jack straight to it if you'd rather not ruin a phone. There will be a black line coming from the pole that will have two leads coming off of it inside the box attached to 2 screws. Remove all other connections to the screws. Now attach the phone/phone jack to it and test. If it works here it means that something is up with your wiring. If not then reverse the two connections from your phone/phone jack and try again. If it still doesn't work it means something is up on Innovative's end.

I've had Innovative come out over my phone line & the problem wasn't the jack, it was the cord from the phone TO the jack that had to be replaced. The Innovative guy was very nice about it but the line worked fine after I replaced that cord. The little metal thing on the end that went into the wall was corroded. You could barely see that it was, though.

Trade,

Did they charge you for the visit? In the states anything that happens "after" their box you get charged for, anything before the box is on them. I'm shocked if that isn't the case here...probably why they don't have the money to upgrade their lines 🙂

He was a really nice guy & said he wouldn't turn it in as my problem so I didn't get charged but he could have! He said the calls help him keep his job. It was just a tiny speck on the end of the cord that goes into the wall from the phone & he mentioned that most people wouldn't have noticed it. I wrote a letter to Innovative telling them how nice & efficient he was.

islandtyme,
Do you have DSL? When I installed DSL, I started getting static on all my phones. Innovative told me to put DSL filters on my phone lines, that the wiring was so old here that it couldn't keep up (or something like that). So, I bought DSL filters at Radio Shack, but they didn't do much. BTY, the wiring for my phone line is just a little over a year old, from the pole to my house.

Cliffco telephone repair on STX can sort out most problems for you. He's in the white pages. Part time fireman, part time phone guy.
Beats waiting for innovative.
