We found a rental close to Salt River so infectious we will be islanders looking forward to living on STX. I was told that there are some infectious centipedes on the island. If so what can we do about them and how bad are they. We do have a 6 year old daughter.

Not infectious, poisonous. And fast. But either you have them near you or you don't. We've only seen 2 near our property in 3 years.

We usually go to the hardware store and grab a few bags of the granular insecticide and sprinkle it around the outside of the house...the occasional centipedes we see are dead. They are very shy and will try their best to run away from you. You'll only get bitten if you and the centipede are occupying the same space.

We sprinkle insecticide around our house also. Our main problem is mice. I think the bugs are worse if you have alot of vegitation around the house and have to water alot. We are in a dry area and don't have much of a lawn to speak of so we don't have bug problems.
