Inter-island ferries

Another question my husband and I have has to do with the ferries between STT, STX, and STJ. If he really does get this job and we really do move to the islands, I have found some real estate on-line that I like on STX. But, I know his office will be on STT.

We were trying to figure out if there was like an annual "ferry pass" that would make the commute cheaper? Again, may be a totally lame question..but it's something we have been discussing.

Thanks, again.

The ferry between St Croix and St Thomas is a rather long ride for a commute. It also does not run during the "off" tourist season. Like right now. It is also rather expensive for a regular trip. {Check out www.virginislandsfastferry.com} The air shuttles "seabourn..etc" are quicker but more expensive yet.
I don't personally know of anyone who commutes "daily" from or to stx/stt.

There are several ferry options between St John and St Thomas and many people (including school children) "commute" daily in both directions.

Most of your Senators do! There should be another ferry service all year pretty soon. I wouldn't recommend it either, the commute.
St. Thomas to St. John however, is easier, only 15 minutes opposed to 1 hr and 15 minutes!

A daily commute would not be very feasable, but we do know someone who commutes (via Seaborne - the seaplane) and goes to STT on Sunday and returns on Wednesday. She works part-time in STT and 2 days a week in STX. You're probably talking about $80-100 per week tho. Quite a communter budget!

the only way for daily commuting from STX to STT would be feasible is if you own your own airplane and can fly yourself back and forth. Even then, it's not cheap to maintain the aircraft and pay for fuel, landing fees and parking fees. You'd also want a car on both islands or you'd be putting some taxi driver's child through private school and college with what you'd be paying.

Wow. Allrighty. I'll quit looking at the houses on STX. LOL Thanks for the info guys, we appreciate it.

The time of the commute whouldn't bother us that much...I commuted an hour and 45 minutes from the slow time zone into a faster time zone for an entire school year. I got to where I LOVED the "me" time.

But, I see now that it would basically be impossible on island and on island-time. 🙂 Thanks again!

The Fast Ferry is not bringing their boat down this season because they did not want to compete with the new faster ferry.

The faster ferry will carry cars (assuming they can work out the red tape with the VI authorities ) and cargo. They are also talking about offering service to Tortola an PR.

Supposedly the boat is on the way, but with all things around here seeing is believing.

Are dogs allowed on the ferries? Or in taxis or buses for that matter?

Ferries and taxies as long as in a cage. Busses? No idea unless for sight.
